As drummer/vocalist with Montreal's "THE SCEPTRES", I had the honour and pleasure of working with Marty on many of our recordings, in both Montreal and New Your City. On both personal and professional levels, Marty's contributions were a respected key component of our combined successes. He was truly 'One Of A Kind'. R.I.P. MARTY.
My brother and I only met Marty once for lunch a couple years ago but had the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone several times as well. He’d always call to wish us chag sameach on the holidays and we both loved listening to his stories from the good old days of the Montreal music scene. I count myself lucky to have known him even if only for a short time. May his memory be a blessing to his family and loved ones.
Adieu Marty. Vous étiez une influence ÉNORME sur des mélomanes québécois comme moi qui appréciaient votre audace, talent et inventivité. Mon plus grand rêve aurait été de réaliser une Anthologie de tous vos enregistrements, locaux comme internationaux. Je ne cesserai jamais de salué et votre immense carrière et de faire rayonner vos réalisations! Quelle vie. Merci Marty et sincères condoléances à tous ses proches.
Although my brother Sam and I didn’t know Marty for a very long time he definitely left a strong impact on us! He was really something else. What a life he lead! His talents as a vocalist, songwriter and producer are something to behold and treasure. It was always nice to hear from Marty; he always had a fun story or anecdote for us. He will be missed. We will continue playing his records forever!

Marty was a kind man, a good friend with a good heart and a rich musical history. He once told me, his gift to me was sharing his family, for which I'm forever grateful. With fond memories, he will be missed!
I’ve stayed in touch with Marty for over half a century, starting in the early sixties when he produced the recordings of many of the dozens of bands and singers who recorded in my home studio including The Sceptres and The Beau Marks . I learned so much from his enormous musical talent and production skills. He leaves a legacy of great recorded performances of both his own singing/songwriting talents as well as that of the productions he created for others. He shared so many stories of his life both within the music biz and in his personal life. My sympathies go to his wife, Miriam (Mary Hart) whom he first met at my studio, and his family.
Marty will always rest in peace and in tune with the universe .
Although l never met you Martyl feel as though l know you through my great friend Mim and through your music.Thank you for making my friend so happy in her autumn years.May you rest in peace.
I met Marty when I was just a kid in highschool
Marty was recording a song in Dave Leonard's studio. I was there to record a song I had written, and his session lasted much longer than anticipated. When he finished, he came out to apologize to me for keeping me waiting for so long.
When I finished recording, he came over to me and said,
"Hey kid, who wrote your song?"
I told him that I had written it whereas he offered me a contract to write songs with him at his company, Hillco music..
Our first sing we wrote together "J'ai un Secret" went to number one on the French hit parade.
He was my hero then, and still is my hero now.
